U9 and U11 Power Skating and Skills Fall/Winter Program at Terwillegar Arena
The schedule of ice times is:
- October 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th
- November 3rd, 17th, 24th
- December 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd
- January 12th, 19th, 26th
- February 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd
The core focus of the program is to develop better skating and skills fundamentals through a progressive model that will challenge the kids to enhance their hockey abilities. Each one-hour ice time will be devoted to a mix of pure power skating, strength and conditioning drills, and a focus on implementing skating with a combination of the core hockey skills of passing, shooting, and stick handling. It is important to note that this program is purely skills and skating based so there will be no competitive games.
At the U9 and U11 levels we will spend a lot of time working on the basic skating stride and the focus is to create a longer and more powerful skating stride through a variety of drills that increase leg and core strength as well as developing balance and coordination. As the year progresses we will also seek to develop better edge control, agility, acceleration, and backwards skating technique. While power skating can sometimes be a bit dry for young skaters, we will mix in some fun games and keep the kids challenged and engaged while also making sure to work on different hockey skills during each session to keep it fresh! The goal of the whole program is to develop confidence in the kids and send them away from the 2022-23 season as stronger, faster, and more fundamentally sound players who love the game.
In the event of any kind of facility lockdown due to Covid whereby the city or province shuts down the rinks I will fully reimburse everyone for the sessions that we miss.
