U9 and U11 Power Skating and Skills Fall/Winter Program at Terwillegar Arena

A comprehensive 18-session weekly power skating and skills program for the U9 and U11 age groups starting October 1st and running until February 18th. All sessions run from 3:15pm-4:15pm on Thursday's at Terwillegar Arena 'D' and the cost is $450 plus GST ($472.50).

The schedule of ice times is:

October 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th.
November 5th, 12th, and 19th.
December 3rd, 10th, and 17th.
January 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th.
February 4th, 11th, and 18th.

The core focus of the program is to develop better skating and skills fundamentals through a progressive model that will challenge the kids to enhance their hockey abilities. Each one-hour ice time will be devoted to a mix of pure power skating, strength and conditioning drills, and a focus on implementing skating with a combination of the core hockey skills of passing, shooting, and stick handling. It is important to note that this program is purely skills and skating based so there will be no competitive games.

At the U9 and U11 levels we will spend a lot of time working on the basic skating stride and the focus is to create a longer and more powerful skating stride through a variety of drills that increase leg and core strength as well as developing balance and coordination. As the year progresses we will also seek to develop better edge control, agility, acceleration, and backwards skating technique. While power skating can sometimes be a bit dry for young skaters, we will mix in some fun games and keep the kids challenged and engaged while also making sure to work on different hockey skills during each session to keep it fresh! The goal of the whole program is to develop confidence in the kids and send them away from the 2020-21 season as stronger, faster, and more fundamentally sound players who love the game.

Skaters will be assigned a group by jersey color based on their age and ability and we will assign a locker room to the kids for the season. Parents are asked to drop off their child fully dressed with a mask on no sooner than 15 minutes prior to the ice times. If possible, please also arrive with tied skates and enter the building with skate guards. If that isn't an option for you we will make sure that the kids will have their skates tied by an instructor on the bench just prior to hitting the ice. Masks can be left in a plastic bag on the bench during the ice time and put back on upon leaving the ice surface. It is best if parents just drop their skater off in the lobby and please exit the building until the skate time is over. The kids do benefit from having the independence in the rink and it also drastically reduces the congestion of people.

In the event of any kind of facility lockdown due to Covid whereby the city or province shuts down the rinks I will fully reimburse everyone for the sessions that we miss.

If you would like to register please send me an email with your completed registration form attached. We accept a maximum of 24 skaters.
